Your mystery plant is a fig - Ficus Exotica - yes really! £18.99 at Poddington. Without container. You have a bargain. Care instructions - Needs full light, but avoid bright sunlight in spring and summer. Keep compost moderately moist during growth. Can be pruned. They have one at the Abbey, it is about six feet now! Might outdo your umbrella plant. Doesn't grow figs! shame.
Having consultation with specialist on 8th November re my hip. Rachel suggested I could get it done on my birthday then she could send jokes like Hippy Birthday and Hip Hip Hooray!
Was it a porch or a porsche you wanted for your birthday? We are not offering either but just to clear it up for other people, who may be more generous.

Thanks for the plant info. I won't tell Helena because if she realises how big it could get she'll throw it away and, as you say, it was a bargain!
